February  4, 2012
Dear Family and Friends,
We started this week with a Zone leaders’ council meeting on Monday morning. All the zone leaders came into Asuncion to counsel together and see how they can help improve the work in their areas.  Their meeting lasted from 8 am to 1 pm and then they were back to work!  At 2 pm the 10 newest missionaries in the mission along with their trainers came into Asuncion for a training meeting.  We were able to see how the new missionaries are adjusting and answer questions and see how the companionships are doing with the 12 week training program they are working with. After 2 ½ hours they were off to their areas again. They look like they are off to a great start!
Tuesday we were back at EFY for our last week of teaching. This week there were 460 youth participating. Our classes had 80 or so youths in them. We again were impressed with the way the youth were ready to learn and participated well in the discussions and lessons.  We have heard wonderful reports of the youth going to their sacrament meetings each week after their time at EFY and being given the chance to share their testimonies of their experiences. The missionaries are all telling us how excited the youth are about helping with the missionary work now and preparing for missions in the future.
Wednesday we were in Asuncion interviewing the 16 missionaries in Zone 1 here. Elder Foster from our area presidency flew in late that night and Mark picked him up at the airport and he spent the night here before going to speak at EFY on Thursday. We took off that same day  for Ciudad del Este  to interview Zones 9 and 10 there on Thursday and Friday.  I always enjoy hearing about the people being taught and seeing  the happiness in the missionaries who are helping others understand the gospel and make commitments to improve their lives. Friday night after finishing all the interviews Mark went out teaching with the Zone leaders in Zone 10, Elders Clement and King. He was very impressed with their teaching abilities as they taught with power and love. He enjoyed meeting the three families and seeing the progress they are making as they are learning the gospel. He loves it when he can go out teaching with the missionaries and see the good that is happening in the lives of the people here.
Saturday we drove back to Asuncion and worked on preparations for zone conferences which begin next week!
Tomorrow (Feb 5) is the birthday of our new son in law Daniel and also our oldest grandson Jacob. Jacob will turn 12 and we are so happy that he will be receiving the priesthood! Jacob is such a pure, kind young man who is such a great big brother and example to his four younger brothers and also his big sister! We love Jacob so much and are so proud of the way he is living his life!
We hope you all have a great week!  Love, Mark and Sandy
