October 1, 2011

Dear Family and Friends,                                                                             October 1, 2011
What a great week we have had. Monday began with zone leaders’ council when all the zone leaders and assistants come together to talk about the work and how we are doing and what we can improve upon.  We have some great young men who are working hard and it is a blessing to be associated with them. We spent a fair amount of time discussing the things covered in zone conference and if everyone is applying what was learned. It is also a time for the zone leaders to make an accounting as to their personal areas and how the work is going there. It was a good day!
Tuesday and Wednesday all the district leaders, new missionaries from the last two groups and their trainers also joined the zone leaders for some specialized training. Part of the training is to help missionaries learn how to take notes so they can go away from meetings and know what they need to improve on. President showed his typed pages of 100 things he had listed from zone conferences that we as a mission need to always be working on. Hopefully they are getting the message of how to improve and make the changes we need to. It was a wonderful three days as we were with 110 of our 196 missionaries during those days.  We have about 60 missionaries who have been here 12 weeks or less so the percentage of fairly young missionaries is large. We teach and teach and re-teach constantly  because the force of missionaries is constantly changing. It is good to see the new missionaries learning fast though so things are going well in that regard.
On Wednesday night we took an elder  who needed a little surgery to the hospital. Things went well and Friday he came to the mission home and will spend conference weekend here with us as he heals.
We are so excited to watch conference all weekend. It is such a spiritual boost for all of us. I hear the missionaries often referring to messages and how much they help them personally and with the work here.  Our Utah children are all gathered together as is the tradition and we are grateful to know that wherever we all are , we will be watching and listening to our prophet and our leaders and hearing their counsel for us.  We know there is continuing revelation and we are so grateful to be able to receive it in our lives.
Mark went out teaching this week with some elders and had a wonderful experience helping teach a family about the plan of salvation. They had recently lost their 4 year old son when he unexpectedly died. He was their only child. They were so heartbroken and hungry to find answers and comfort and counsel. The gospel is just that for all of us, comfort and answers!  How grateful we are to be here sharing this great message.  We love you all!   Mark and Sandy
