Dear Family and Friends,
October 8, 2011
General Conference was so wonderful! We
loved every minute of it. We are grateful for the things we heard and
felt. It is such a great time of the year. The missionaries were so
happy they could take their investigators to hear and see a prophet!
This
was a week full of interviews. All of the missionaries in the zones
close around Asuncion had interviews Tuesday through Thursday and then
Friday we drove to Ca’auazu and Coronel Oviedo for the Zones there. It
was a long week but good. We will go out and
finish the rest of the interviews next week. While Mark interviewed I
taught each district about the importance of specific lesson plans for
each investigator and how and when to make those plans. Preach My Gospel
is so wonderful and full of everything missionaries need to be great
teachers. We are constantly trying to teach and
help the missionaries find the things within its pages that will help
them. I also spent time reminding everyone about the importance of water
intake during the heat, using permetrina to keep mosquitoes away and
also some pointers on the correct way to walk so we can avoid injuries.
It’s always nice to see the whole mission during the interview weeks.
On
Saturday we took a preparation day and went to check out a golf course
for some friends who are coming in a couple weeks. He served here in
Paraguay years ago and is excited to come back and see his old areas
again. Hopefully Mark will be able to join him for a round of golf if
the schedule works out okay. Mark really enjoyed the tour of the golf
course he was given as he was checking out the course.
We
hope everyone is well and happy. We are grateful for the time we have
here to be with these good young missionaries. We love hearing about
their individual successes they are having as they seek out and find
more people to teach and share this gospel with. Many are working hard
to improve and grow in their focus and efforts here in the mission. It
is hard work but it is so wonderful to watch as they learn the joy that
comes when they forget themselves and go to work. Those who try to hold
too tightly to things from home seem to have the hardest time getting
their hearts and minds into the work the way they need to in order to be
successful missionaries. Missions are wonderful places to watch young
people grow into young adults.
This
week we welcomed Elder Hair into the office. He will replace Elder
Curtis as President’s secretary. It is a big responsibility and Elder
Curtis has done a great job. He will train Elder Hair for a few weeks
until President is confident Elder Hair is ready to take over. We
appreciate the good missionaries we have here in our mission! Have a great week! Love, Mark and Sandy
