Dear Family and Friends,
Sunday
was a busy day as Mark drove three hours to San Ignacio for his last
priesthood leadership training for this cycle. I didn’t go along because
the meeting house there is just a small home and there was no where for
me to wait during the meeting. Mark also had interviews before and
after the meeting so it was late when he was able to drive back home. We
try not to drive at night but sometimes there is no way to avoid it.
Mark said it was a very long drive home especially because there are
many people out on the roads on the weekends making it a bit dangerous.
Needless to say I was glad when he arrived home! We slept a bit and then
were up at 4 am to drive back to San Ignacio for
interviews with missionaries in Zone 7 there. We drove on to Bogado and
then Encarnacion to interview all the missionaries in zones 7 and 11
finishing all the interviews for the whole mission for this cycle. That
evening Mark also interviewed 5 or 6 people from the district there.
Tuesday
we held zone conference there in Encarnacion and then drove to Ciudad
del Este . The assistants, Elders Love and Durrant rode with us so they
would be in Ciudad del Este ready to help set up
for zone conference in Ciudad del Este. It was fun to spend a bit of
time with them and they had lots of questions about priesthood order and
church government so we all learned a lot as we drove. The discussion
began with a question about who holds keys in the church so starting
from the Prophet we talked about the order of things in the church.
We
felt so good about the conferences this cycle. The missionaries in each
zone came ready to learn and participated well. We again spent time
working on our teaching skills to help us improve as teachers. I
especially enjoyed the time we spent defining gospel terms and words. I
could see the light going on in the faces of the missionaries as to the
importance of being able to say things simply and plainly so people can
understand the message we share. Learning and growing is such a
wonderful process as we work together here in the mission. We know we
are going to have many better teachers after this zone conference cycle.
After the conferences we drove back to Asuncion on Thursday.
We came back to the mission
office to check in and found the office elders working so hard at their
responsibilities (as usual). They really work hard and whether we are
there or not the work keeps happening. The registrador ( the elder who
keeps records,etc) gave us the copy of the mission history that he had
completed for 2011. It was fun to read because a couple of years ago the
elder in charge of the history began writing it in scriptural style
writing.The style has been carried on since then. That is just one
example of the wonderful missionaries we have here. Young men and women
who are trying to magnify their callings .They have been very clever and
creative in accomplishing their responsibilities. Many
really are learning how to find joy in the work. That is such a key for
a happy life if we can all learn to enjoy the things we are asked to do
and do the best we can. I learn a lot watching these young missionaries, they are great! Well,we hope this is a good week for you all! Love, Mark and Sandy
