                                                                                                                                      March 3, 2012
Dear Family and Friends,
Last Saturday we had a fun evening out with the north mission president and his wife (Madariagas ), our area seventy and wife (Digiovannis) and Elder Foster of the our area presidency. We were able to enjoy a nice evening of conversation and good food!
Sunday we attended church in Lucerito where we have four missionaries. We visited primary and also attended a ward council meeting after sacrament meeting. One of the things that we are really encouraging is the importance of ward councils. They are so vital in helping the missionaries be able to work effectively with the members.
Monday all of the zone leaders and assistants gathered in Asuncion for our monthly zone leaders’  council. We were especially impressed with the preparations the missionaries had made personally for the meeting. This is a great group of leaders who love their fellow missionaries and are working well together in their zones to raise the teaching levels of our missionaries.
Tuesday we attended a district meeting in Obrero. Elder Wilson did a great job leading the district there in their meeting and  the practices they did. Wednesday we were invited to attend a ceremony with the first lady of Paraguay where the church presented 250 wheel chairs through her foundation to various hospitals and clinics here in Paraguay.  That night Mark went out teaching with the elders from Lucerito where we had attended church on Sunday. We met a man named Jose that was preparing for baptism and the elders wanted Mark to help teach him. He is planning to be baptized today!
Thursday morning Mark went to a weekly planning session with Elders Sievers and Schone. He said they are doing great and they lead are leading their zone well. In the afternoon we took the office elders to lunch for a thankyou/ welcome /goodbye for the changes  that will be taking place there as two elders are in training to replace Elders Stewart and Gleason. They have done such an amazing job in their responsibilities there. Elders Cannon and Clark are busy filling their heads with lots of information as they are being trained.   We love the way these young men work so hard to serve their fellow missionaries and do so much to keep the business end of the mission taken care of.
Friday Mark had interviews at the office and I stayed home to work around the house with Lidu. We are sorting through closets and book shelves  to de-clutter the mission home so there will be room for the new family that will be coming to replace us in July.
It is Saturday now and we just returned from the baptism of Jose Avila. He is such a good man and well prepared for baptism. That is why we missionaries are here, to help these people who have been prepared by the Lord to receive the gospel message.  Jose’s family is preparing to be baptized  also with the exception of his wife who at this point is not ready to listen. He is confident that with time she will be ready to listen and learn. He is a man of great faith and he was so excited to become a member of the church. The ward is ready to reach out to her with visits and try to help her along also. The bishop’s wife is great and she will be a big help. I have been impressed with Sister Franco from the first time I met her. I just kind of felt like we connected and today I learned her first name is Sandra..maybe that’s why we connected!!  Have a great week!                                                                                     Love, Mark and Sandy
